Birth Doula Support in Hudson Valley, NY
So what is a doula?
She's mama's support person - solely present to advocate for her, comfort her, and truly back her up through preconception, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. The truth is, mama knows best and she doesn't need to be told what to do, she just needs to be trusted and supported. A doula is a non-judgmental witness to the miracle that is the process of pregnancy, which leads to a woman birthing her baby. A doula should be available to educate mama on birth, what the spectrum of “normal” is, and informed consent. Informed consent is when mama knows all of her options and the alternatives to typical procedures/options she is faced with during preconception, pregnancy, and birth.
Why do I call myself the birth bestie? I love building a friendship with my pregnant mamas - the way I do this is by staying in communication with her throughout her pregnancy, so when birth happens, she feels like she can truly be comfortable around me (because I’m not a stranger!)
Once I become mamas doula, support begins. I like to have monthly prenatal calls throughout pregnancy. During these prenatal calls, we discuss any fears mama has around birth, we discuss them and process the fears, I educate mama on the physiology of birth, go over informed consent and all of the possible interventions (and alternatives). My goal is to help mama feel more prepared for birth, informed about all of her options, and fearless to give birth.
