How to safely v-steam (or yoni steam) from home
V-steaming, also commonly known as yoni-steaming, has a plethora of benefits. The good news is that you can literally do this for yourself at home, without fuss. There are, of course, a couple of things that you can purchase to make the experience more comfortable. The bare essentials would be having a v-steam blend that is right for your body and needs, as well as a pot and water to boil. Each herb has a set of properties that uniquely contribute to the healing benefits of steaming. Some herbal blends are better for women with longer flows and heavier periods, some are best for postpartum. The blend that I sell is best for postpartum healing and the follicular and luteal phases of the cycle. Check it out here. The process of steaming is very gentle on the body, which is best for the vulva and womb - the oils of the herbs is moved through the process of steaming.
How to steam from the comfort of your home:
The process can be done in the comfort of your own home. Just purchase a v-steam blend and mark your calendar for the perfect time to steam (I like to steam after my cycle to get a good cleanse, even though the the uterus is self-cleansing, its still nice give it an extra hand). If you don’t have a large stainless steel pot to boil the herbs in, you can grab this great one that I like to use. I like to put about a quart of water to an oz to two of herbs. Let the herbs steep for 20 minutes or so. Then you can either set up your steaming seat like this one or squat/kneel over the pot (this might be difficult to do for 15 minutes, especially postpartum). Wear a comfortable, flowy dress to drape over the pot, allowing all of the steam to fill up the space around your vulva. Typically, I like to steam for 20-30 minutes. If you want to ensure that your herbs stay warm throughout, you can use this to keep them warm.
If you want to keep super economical and budget friendly, just grab your v-steaming herbs and steam on your toilet! Hear me out….I know it might sound gross, but it’s not. You can clean your toilet very well. Place A pyrex bowl in your toilet (find one that fits well so that you’re able to put the toilet seat down and sit on it). Boil your herbs as explained above and pour the mixture in the bowl. Make sure the steam is at a comfy level and sit on the toilet!

There are honestly so many more benefits that aren’t listed because I can go on. It’s really worth trying yourself because you never know what it can help with. Yoni steaming was a huge part of my healing journey with endometriosis. I no longer have that diagnosis, thanks to a few amazing healing modalities, one of which was v-steaming 1-2 times per week. I will write about the other things I did in another blog soon, but needless to say, I’m in love with this practice because I know it’s healing.
My v-steaming blend includes the following herbs that I found work so beautifully together.
Motherwort: great for balancing hormones, rejuvenating the reproductive system by increasing blood flow, clearing out yeast or bacterial infection with its anti-fungal/anti-bacterial properties, and most renowned for easing menstrual cramping or pains.
Mugwort: a fantastic herb for regulating the menstrual cycle, stimulating blood circulation, and eases menstrual cramps.
Rosemary: an antiseptic, cleanses blood and the uterus, and stimulates circulation
Rose: revitalizes the sexual organs, increases vaginal lubrication and sensitivity, can increase sex drive and intimacy
Marigold/Calendula: brings healing to the vaginal tissues and helps aid in rebuilding tissues after birth. Can also aid with heavy flow menstruation and ease cramps, anti-inflammatory
Yarrow: great herb for chronic infections, phenomenal postpartum herb as it aids in healing wounds (stitches or tearing postpartum), and is extremely nourishing to the healing tissue
Lemon Balm: antiviral herb, brings relaxation to the pelvic muscles, great herb for pregnant mamas to relax pelvic floor muscles and open up for birth, also relieves PMS symptoms
Lavender: anti-fungal, antiviral herb that has a sweet aroma, adds calmness and relaxation to the process, relaxes nerves and muscles, which can help with pelvic floor health
Doesn’t all of this sound just amazing? Like - why haven’t we been taught this?! I wish I discovered this sooner! Herbs are a gift from God and He put them here to help us heal. Using herbs to heal the womb and vulva clearly have a plethora of health benefits.
